Home At Last

On Tuesday, November 18, 2014, our whole family of seven was united! After two years of waiting, we finally had all of our family together! We were tired and sick and probably didn't smell very well, but we had each other. What a wonderful day that was! It was the culmination of all our tears and prayers.

Here is our adoption video. It serves as a reminder of all that God has done! We are so thankful for his faithfulness and goodness! I pray our story encourages others!

Until next time! -K

Praying for 133, 134 and 135

Just a quick little court prayer request...

The three cases that we are currently tracking in court and hope are OUR three cases are officially on the dockets for August 14th (which for us will be tonight). They have finally assigned case #s so we can now pray specifically for:

Case #133
Case #134
Case #135

We were hoping we would know by Monday when the next hearing is scheduled for, but it appears they are behind on updating the website (the website is our only source of information right now). They still have not posted the notes from cases heard a week ago. Usually it only takes a couple of business days but they are very behind. If they continue to be behind, I have no idea when we will see the case notes. Please pray they catch up!

We trust whatever timeline God has chosen will be the perfect timeline. We truly believe this, but we are petitioning the Father to be gracious and grant us a QUICK second hearing. In fact I'm praying for either the 25th or 26th of August!

If you pray for these cases, please pray for favor with the judge and  for there to be no delays. Also, please pray for me and Lance as we wait for our next small sliver of information. It can be discouraging to wake up morning after morning hoping to have an update only to find none.

Thank you all for your prayers and support! I will post an update as soon as I have one!

Until next time! -K

Why Are You Cast Down, O My Soul?

Psalm 42

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you
from the Land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves have gone over me
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God, my rock: "Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of he oppression of the enemy?"
As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long, "Where is your God?"
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him my salvation and my God

I try so hard not to get my hopes up about things, yet I do... I can't help it. I always get my hopes up and so often I am disappointed. The cycle has played out again... again I got my hopes up and again I am disappointed.

I had really hoped and believed that the case heard for evidence on July 2nd was our case. It took several days for them to post the notes from the case online and each day that passed my heart sank lower and lower. This morning at 7:30 the notes were finally there. While Lance and the boys were asleep I checked the notes in silence and quickly learned that Case No. 92 was for a little boy... not three little girls. Definitely not our case. I shed a few quiet tears and went back to sleep.

I've been low in my spirits today as the reality that we now have no idea where we are in the court process sunk in. My hopes of traveling by the end of August disintegrated into thin air. The "end" that I could almost touch with my hand just disappeared over the horizon. I'm tired and weary.

As I read Psalm 42 tonight, I was reminded my hope is in God, my salvation. So, while my soul is cast down I am going to follow in David's footsteps and remember the Lord from the Land of Jordan (or the Land of Adoption). I want to recount what the Lord has done because I SHALL again praise him!

Remember with me and let us rejoice over all that God has done! Let's start from the very beginning...

  • God opened our eyes to see the beauty of the gospel and to understand that we ourselves were once orphans, but because of the great mercy and love of God he sought us out relentlessly and now, through grace, we are heirs with Christ! Praise the Lord!
  • God made it so perfectly clear to us that we were to adopt. He led us to India and gave us a desire for daughters! Praise the Lord!
  • God gave us the most amazing Valentine gift ever in 2013 when we saw K, K and R for the first time. He gave us the peace and courage to move forward with what seemed totally crazy! Praise the Lord!
  • God has given us prayer warriors and Godly council to direct us, challenge us, prepare us and support us throughout this journey! Praise the Lord!
  • God opened so many doors and lead us as we navigated uncertain waters. Praise the Lord!
  • In May 2013, when we sent in our dossier God provided the $15,000 we need in less than 7 days! Praise the Lord!
  • In September of 2013 when we lost the referral for the girls God sustained us. He so beautifully comforted us and gave us peace beyond understanding. Praise the Lord!
  • In November 2013 he led us to Eden and he taught our hearts to trust him and seek him more fervently. He taught us to pray with faith. Praise the Lord!
  • Because of our pursuit of Eden, we were connected to the founder of the Forever Families Foundation who later so generously gave us the grant that brought us to being fully funded. Praise the Lord!
  • In January God performed a miracle and he brought our girls back to us! Despite our confusion over Eden, he made it so clear to both me and Lance that this was the work of his hand and this was the path we were to walk in. Praise the Lord!
  • In February, a year after first seeing their faces, we held K, K and R's official referrals in our hands! Praise the Lord!
  • In March God blessed us with an amazing Both Hands project in which we were honored to serve Ms. Wright. God provided over $11,000 through this project! Praise the Lord!
  • When our agency lost accreditation in March, God protected us and provided for us! We didn't lose any of our funds and our transition to a new agency was smooth! Praise the Lord!
  • In April we received our Article 5 Letters from the US Embassy saying we had approval to make the girls US citizens! Praise the Lord!
  • In May, we were FULLY FUNDED! God provided over $60,000 for our adoption! Praise the Lord!
  • Also in May we received our ARC and NOC approval in record time! Praise the Lord!
  • On Mothers Day God provided a vehicle that would fit our family of 7! Praise the Lord!
  • In June our girls got to see pictures their family for the first time! Praise the Lord!
  • God directed me to the court websites where our case can be tracked! There is progress in this court! Praise the Lord!
  • God will continue to move on behalf of K, K and R! Praise the Lord!
  • God will bring them home in his perfect time and he will comfort us all while we wait. Praise the Lord!
May we always remember all that the Lord has done for us on this journey! When our soul is cast down, may the remembrance of his faithfulness bring us peace and joy!

If you would like to pray for us, you can specifically pray that the next case being heard on July 11th will be our case. You can also pray that God would work our travel plans perfectly around Brayden's 8th birthday. He does not want us to be in India on his birthday and I want to be sure that we can properly celebrate his eight years of life! Finally, you can pray that God would be with the girls and comfort them while they wait.

Thank you so much for your continued prayer and support!

Until next time! -K

Unlocked

For a few days now, I’ve battled internally about when I should open up our blog again. I was torn because a lot of me wants it to be open so people can freely follow our journey of adoption and keep up with our family, but another part of me is a protective momma bear who doesn’t want to risk any chance of facing another devastating loss. I asked other adoptive Indi-mommas and I got mixed opinions, so I decided to pray to the ultimate authority and ask the Lord to lead me. Why this wasn’t my go-to option I don’t know.

After some conviction in my heart, I came to the conclusion that I needed to open it back up again. Here are the things that I led me to this conclusion:

  • We have NOC and that is one of the most crucial milestones in an Indian adoption.
  • I was reminded that I am still not in control of this journey. The reality is that locking my blog down really doesn’t give me any control. God’s will ultimately will come to fruition, and that’s been proven many times in this process.
  • By trying to be in control and protect things, I’m not able to be an encouragement to those who might be in the process of adoption or considering it or even just people who are struggling knowing if God cares or provides or works miracles.
  • I want my blog to proclaim the greatness of our God! He has been moving mountains and parting seas for our girls to come home, and I want to shout about it from the rooftops!
  • My blog is set to be unsearchable. You can’t google our names and find our blog. You can find a lot of other things but not this blog. I will change this once we get our verbal court orders.

So there you have it! Welcome to the unlocked Spin Cycle Diaries! :)

Today is an AMAZING day!!!!

Today is an amazing day! I am excited! I am thrilled! I am in shock! God has done it again! He has moved mountains and answered another of our BIG prayers! All glory goes to Him!

Today we found out that we have ARC and NOC approvals!!!!!

Sometimes I miss The Wiggles. Maybe R will like them.

This is HUGE!!!!

ARC is the state approval and NOC is the national approval. ARC comes first since it’s required for NOC.

On average is seems to take about 5-6 months for families to get both ARC and NOC (sometimes it takes much longer). Below are real timelines of other families adopting from India.

Referral papers in June and NOC in November = 5 months
Referral papers in January and NOC in July = 6 months
Referral papers in August and NOC in January = 5 months
Referral papers in August and NOC in December = 6 months
Referral papers in January and NOC in June = 4 months
Referral papers in July and NOC in January = 6 months
Referral papers in January and NOC in October = 9 months
Referral papers in January and NOC in August = 7 months

We signed our referral papers on February 8th and got NOC May 16. THREE MONTHS!!! Praise the Lord!!

We are now waiting on a court date! The courts will be closed the whole month of June so we are praying for a early July court date. Once again this is another BIG prayer to pray!

Once you have a court date it generally takes 1-3 months to pass court. After court we will travel about 6 weeks later after the girls passports are ready! Keep praying with us that God would continue to move mountains to bring our girls home quickly! I am still praying for travel at the end of August or early September!

I had to celebrate the special day with a little gift for our soon to be new United States Citizens! I got them matching red, white and blue tees to wear home on the plane!!! :)

Praying we hear great court news soon! After we pass court and the girls are officially ours, I will unlock the blog!

A Call To Prayer

I actually have started writing two other blog posts recently, and I know I should get them up, because one is an update on our Both Hands Project. However, I feel a bit of urgency to write this one.

Back in October, God majorly convicted me about my praying. Honestly, before that I just wasn’t doing much of it. Today, I’ve be re-convicted about my lack of belief that my prayers – our prayers – really make a difference. I know that seems crazy seeing how God has already answered many of our prayers in BIG ways! I guess I’m a lot like the Israelites... I forget all too easily what God has done for me!

I’ll be honest, I don’t know how prayer “works” – how our feeble offering of words makes any difference – but God commands us to pray, so it doesn’t matter if we understand how it “works” or not... we should pray! Even Jesus prayed, and his IS God. If prayer was important for Jesus, then it should especially be important for us!

So... tonight I am making a call to prayer as I would love as many prayer warriors as possible to pray with me about these specific things! I am laying some pretty big requests at the feet of my Father in heaven. These are prayers that would require miracles in order to be answered. Quite frankly, these requests seem impossible, but we know that God can do the impossible! Here’s what we are praying:

Request #1
I am asking the Lord to provide the money we need to be fully funded – agency fees, country fees and travel expenses – by the end of May! Our approximate amount needed to be fully funded is $25,000! Pray that Jehovah Jireh would provide all we need to get these sweet girls home.

Request #2 (The BIGGIE)
I am asking the Lord to pave the way for us to travel before R’s 3rd birthday which is in the beginning of August. I cannot stand the thought of missing another birthday. I’m ready to hold my girls in real life and not just in my dreams! We also want to travel as soon as possible considering the unrest that is developing in different areas in the East. Guys, this is logically impossible! The courts shut down from mid May until the end of June and the likelihood of us passing court in time to travel before her birthday is like zero. We would need MASSIVE movement between now and April... like blow your mind massive! I must admit that I feel like a complete fool to even ask for this but this is my desire.

This! Just this!
God may choose not to answer my prayers for whatever reason, and if he doesn’t then I will continue to trust his sovereignty, BUT I am going to ASK! This momma is going to get on her knees and plead the case of three orphans before the Lord “because he [has] inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.”

Will you Pray with me? Saying “I will be praying” is SO easy to do yet most people don’t actually do it. I know, I’m guilty too. So when you see me or Lance in person or on social media will you please stop for a brief second and say a short little prayer for our family? If you feel led to pray more earnestly with us, then by all means please do. I am believing that we will see the Lord move in mighty ways. I may be a fool but I am a fool with faith that my God can do BIG THINGS!

Amen! Until next time! -K

A Beautiful Puzzle

"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction" James 1:27

"Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause." Isaiah 1:17

These are just a a couple of verses in the bible that instruct us to care for the orphan and the widow. THIS Saturday is our Both Hands Project! It’s finally here! Lance and I, along with a team of about 22 of our friends and family, will live out these words and spend our day serving Ms. Bernice, the widow of a veteran in our local community. We will be working on her home doing cleaning, painting, organizing, landscaping and other tasks. None of this would be possible without the help of our local House of Heroes who is providing much of our supplies! This is one “hand” serving the widow!

With the other “hand” we are serving the orphans... our orphans and soon to be daughters! We are are raising sponsorship for our team's day of work (much like people raise sponsorship for running a marathon or playing in a golf tournament), and 100% of all the funds raised go directly to bringing K, K and R home from !ndia. Right now we owe our adoption agency $20,000 and we also need about $10,000-12,000 for travel expenses. This project is one of our biggest opportunities to knock out a large portion of these funds. We have sent out hundreds of letters and made dozens of posts online. We are trusting God to faithfully provide all we need. He’s got this!

I have been brought to tears more than once just this morning as I have considered how much God has already done for our family and how blessed we have been by those who have supported us in this adoption journey. What I love about this Both Hands Project is the fact that the focus isn’t just on our family, but a large part of the focus is on serving Ms. Bernice. I am humbled to be able to serve alongside so many wonderful people and to make a small difference in her life. I am praying that she is blessed by our efforts and that she senses God’s love and provision for her.

I’ve been putting together a puzzle I had picked out when we began fundraising. It is a beautiful HDR image of the Taj Mahal. We are putting names of people and families who have supported us on the back of the puzzle pieces. When I ordered that puzzle I read that it was 2,000 pieces, but it wasn’t until I started to put the edges together that I realized just how BIG this puzzle is. It’s so big I didn’t really have a surface to put it on except for our massive, square coffee table. Once I got all the edges pieced together I had a better idea of how big this sucker was, but I still didn’t know how beautiful it really was until I started filling in more of the middle... the hard parts.

As we have walked this road of adoption over the last year, I have realized there are way bigger things going on with this than just our family growing or helping orphans. These are just small pieces of the puzzle, and just like this puzzle, when we began this adoption we knew it would be life changing but until we started seeing the pieces come together we had no idea how big and how beautiful this process was. I’m finding odd little pieces of this puzzle that I never expected to be there, but they fit so perfectly! God can see the completed puzzle. He knows every piece and he knows who is involved with every piece.

So, as I sit here with tears in my eyes at the beautiful providence of God all around me, let me ask you this: Are YOU a piece of our puzzle? Are YOU a piece of a different puzzle? Has God  been gently or maybe not so gently tugging at your heart about something? Maybe you know deep down that it’s more than just a thought or a hope or a dream... it’s Him and you know it like you know your own name. What’s holding you back from saying “Yes” to following Jesus? Is it selfishness? Pride? Fear? Doubt? Let me encourage you, Christian... saying “Yes” to following Jesus (whatever that may look like in your life) will NEVER be something you regret. It may bring you pain and hardship, but it will also bring you JOY and PEACE and HOPE and LOVE! His puzzle for His bride is always beautiful... maybe not in the way that the world sees beauty, but let me assure you, it is the most beautiful thing you will witness this side of eternity. Say yes! Do that something that you can do in the name of the One who will empower you to do it!

If you happen feel that God is leading you to be a part of our puzzle by supporting us through prayer or giving, then please visit our Both Hands Project Page. Soon we will have a video of our project day to share. Everyone who sponsors our team (in a big way or small way) will get their name on the back of one of our puzzle pieces. I can't wait to have it all put together so I can stare at the back. Ha!

Please feel free to share this blog post or our BH page! (((Hugs)))

Until next time! -K

A Perfect Love

Valentines Day... probably my least favorite holiday of the year. If you want to see me roll my eyes 150+ times in one day, just come hang out with me on Valentines Day. I’m a Valentine Scrooge you might say. Lance loves it... I mean he loves the fact that I hate it. I will, however, never turn down chocolate even if it comes in a heart shaped container or pink wrapper. Chocolate is the only redeeming value of Valentines Day.

I’ve mentioned before how God has a sense of humor and he knows I like it when he’s funny. Well, last year on Valentines Day God made a funny. Just as I was rolling my eyes for the first time at all the hearts and flowers on my FB wall, I got an email from our adoption agency and upon opening it I was in love at first sight... on Valentines Day. On the day where normally I’m busy internally making fun of all the mushy love stuff, I was a complete puddle of mushy love stuff over the three faces before me. I’m telling you, he’s funny!

This year, while I’m still a Valentines Scrooge (confirmed by my rant to Lance on the phone yesterday about how dumb Valentines school parties are) we will be celebrating February 14th as our “Seen Ya Day!” (kind of like “Gotcha Day!” but not to be confused with the day in New York where high school seniors dress up and get special privileges... I realize those sound exactly the same). So, what better place for us to celebrate our love for our daughters than to attend the Empowered to Connect Conference in Birmingham! To say that I’m excited about this conference is a total understatement! Thursday cannot get here fast enough and I don’t care if roads are bad! We are going! I think this will be an amazing opportunity for Lance and I to further prepare ourselves for our girls to come home and also be alone for a couple of days. I am so stoked to be able to hear Karyn Purvis (the “child whisperer” as I call her) in person and fill up at least one notebook full of Godly wisdom!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Empowered to Connect or the book The Connected Child, this is basically a conference about a particular type of parenting for children from hard places. We call this type of parenting “Trust Based Parenting” and the concept is that your main goal in all interaction with your children is connection, trust building and healing. We have begun learning and implementing these techniques with our boys. It is hard! It’s hard because it brings my selfishness to the surface. It’s hard because it doesn’t come naturally. It’s hard because it requires consistent WORK!

Karyn Purvis is one of the authors of The Connected Child (The Trauma Mamma Bible). The book itself is not “Christian” but it certainly is based on biblical principles. Because of this, she actually wrote a bible study that coincides with the book called Created to Connect. I’ve gone through this study once earlier in our adoption process with a group of other moms, but I decided to go through it again by myself. I have been so encouraged and convicted by this study.

In yesterday’s devotion, I read about love and fear. 1 John 4: 18-19 says, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.” Later in the day, I read a blog from Lifeline about discipline for adopted children and they quoted this verse, too. Coincidence? Nah. I thought this was so very timely. I have had a pretty rough couple of days with the boys, and these words really penetrated my heart. There is no fear in LOVE.

For most of my life, I thought that I had genuine love for God, but what I really had was fear. I was afraid of his punishment for my sin, so I did all the “Christian things” in order to be sure that I was “saved” from that punishment. Despite all my efforts, I had not been perfected in love and I was blind to this fact. But one day, God opened my eyes and I truly saw how much he loved me... how he had loved me all along, forever and always, even when I didn’t love him. I realized that he had relentlessly pursued me with his love and that perfect love cast out fear in my heart. Now THAT is a love story that I can get excited about this Valentines Day! Amen?

What’s totally awesome about the Christian life is the fact that in every aspect of it we have the opportunity–and responsibility–to reflect the love of the Father. I believe this is especially true in marriage and parenting. When you think about your children and your spouse in the light of the gospel, everything changes.

I’ve realized that I don’t want my children to obey me and do all the right things out of fear of punishment. I want them to respond out of love for me... love that flows willingly because of my love for them. I want my love for my children to visibly reflect in some small way how God loves me. I want love to cast out fear in my children’s lives.

I believe in order to love my children in this way, I must truly seek to love them biblically. Love isn’t just a feeling and a smile. Love is the outpouring of yourself in many different ways. Let’s look at what 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says about love:

love is patient
love is kind
love does not envy
love does not boast
love is not arrogant
love is not rude
love does not insist on its own way
love is not irritable
love is not resentful
love does not rejoice at wrongdoing
love rejoices with the truth
love bears all things
love believes all things
love hopes all things
love endures all things
love never ends

This is what perfect love looks like. Think about how this should translate into love for our children and our spouses?

I admit this is an intimidating list when I lay it next to the list of all my shortcomings. There’s not a single one of these attributes that I could check off as having mastered. However, when I lay this list next to the cross, it matches perfectly. When I focus on God’s perfect love for me and then understand that I have been perfected in his love through the cross, my fear of failure is cast out, because perfect love casts out fear. That's just so  beautifully encouraging to me!

When my children are swinging like Tarzan from the last sliver of patience I have, I can look to the perfect love of God and reflect God's patience back to my boys. When rude and unkind words threaten to burst forth from my mouth, I can look to the perfect love of God and ask him to give me kindness. When I'm irritable and selfish, I can look to the perfect love of God as an example of how to lay down my life for my family. When I'm crumpled up in my bedroom floor crying because I just can't handle it anymore, I can look to the perfect love of God for hope and endurance.

So, on the February 14th, as we are surrounded by teddy bears and red roses, let’s look to the cross of Christ and remind ourselves of what love really is... perfect love that casts out fear. I challenge you to pray and ask God to show you ways that you can reflect his perfect love to your family. Let me warn you though, if you ask for this, be prepared to be convicted over and over again.

Happy Valentines Day Seen Ya Day! ~K

Counting The Costs

I’ve had a few people asking me to blog more. Ha! I’m on demand. You people need therapy! I kid, I kid. Thank you all for reading my unintelligent writings that somehow pass for a blog. :)

Nothing really to update on the adoption front. We still need a miracle in funding and we are waiting for the US to give us our Article 5 for the girls. <---- Pray!

I wanted to share what’s been going on in my heart over the last few weeks as we’ve “readjusted” to the reality that our girls are coming home. I think some of you who have talked to me in person have picked up on the fact that I’m not jumping up and down like a lunatic when you comment about the miracle God performed for our family and how exciting it is. I apologize for being so stoic. Let me explain beyond the simple fact that this girl just doesn’t jump up and down unless there’s a roach, thanks to some double black diamond ski slopes in Colorado.

When we first received the “referral” (I use that term loosely) for the girls in February of last year, we were nervous and excited. As the months passed and we adjusted to the idea, we KNEW that bringing home three children at one time would be hard, HARD, SO HARD. We worked on preparing ourselves for the hard that would completely define our lives. However, I think there was still a tiny bit of grit and resolve in us that said, “We can do this. We can!”

Then we lost the girls. It was a really confusing time for us because we had no idea  what number of children was the “right” number for our family. Should we just go back to two. Would we accept a different group of three? Would we be ok with just one? For me it was an adjustment of expectations and the realization that I just needed to trust the Lord... more.

When we began pursuing Eden, I must admit that Lance and I both kind of exhaled and said, “Man, one will still be hard, but three would have been crazy hard.” I think we quickly became more “comfortable” with the idea of just adopting one child. I mean we would actually be able to fit our family in my Nissan Cube! Lance and I might actually be able to go on a date every once in a while! I might actually get an hour of sleep once a week! We might actually be able to live a somewhat normal life!

Then apparently God laughed and said, “Look at Kristian. She’s so cute with all those ideas of ease and comfort.” I don’t think he really said that but who knows. I am cute though. That’s true.

Anyways, so here we are back to staring HARD in the face and guess what? The grit and resolve is gone. “We can do this. We can!” has been replaced with, “Oh God, we can’t do this! We don’t have what it takes! This is too hard!” and all of that is the absolute, honest truth. We can’t. We don’t. It is.

But our inadequacy and our fear of the unknown doesn’t change the fact that we truly believe God is calling us to walk this road. I believe he purposely chose this road for us specifically because WE can’t do this.

The Apostle Paul found himself on a road of hardship. In 2 Corinthians 12, he writes, “Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Over the last few weeks as I have looked ahead to where God is leading us, I feel that he has been preparing my heart for the trenches of adoption. The place where we are just completely in it, the new and exciting is gone, the girls are scared, the boys are hurt, we are exhausted and there’s nowhere to run except the strong arms of our Sustainer. He is preparing me to boast in my weakness so that HIS power may rest upon me. He is preparing me to be content with weakness and hardships.

The beautiful reality is our DAUGHTERS are coming home! There is joy and excitement and anticipation that the girls we love will soon be in our arms! Yet, with that lovely reality comes another one. The day that Lance and I board that plane for Ind*a we will leave our easy, comfortable, convenient life behind... forever. Everything will change. I will change, Lance will change, our marriage will change, our boys will change, our family will forever change. Our home will be filled with hurts and fears and anger and confusion and just flat out HARD. I am scared and grieving all that we will lose when we gain our daughters.

Before you jump to conclusions and say, “Well Kristian, if you have these feelings and think this is all too much, then maybe you guys should reconsider if this is really what God is calling you to,” hear me when I say that I believe God has brought me to this place, because when Jesus calls us to follow him we must count the cost. There will always be costs in following Jesus, and we are delusional if we think that He only asks for easy, little costs. In Luke 14:33, Jesus tells the crowds, “So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.” There are BIG costs involved with following Jesus and there are cost in this adoption beyond the $50,000+! Bringing home our daughters will cost us everything, and I believe God is preparing my heart to move forward in obedience with full awareness of these costs.

And before you think that I’m looking for a pat on the back for my "faithfulness", hear me when I say that EVERYDAY I fail! Everyday my flesh says, “NO! I don’t want to do this! I want easy! I want peaceful! I want comfortable! I want, I, I...” You can always recognize your flesh when you hear a bunch of “I”s inside your head. This is hard! It’s a battle! Daily I have to remind myself that it’s not about me and that in the end my reward is in Christ! I love these wise and convicting words of David Platt...

“Radical obedience to Christ is not easy... It's not comfort, not health, not wealth, and not prosperity in this world. Radical obedience to Christ risks losing all these things. But in the end, such risk finds its reward in Christ. And he is more than enough for us... My biggest fear, even now, is that I will hear Jesus' words and walk away, content to settle for less than radical obedience to Him.”

So when you run into me and I don’t ooze excitement, just know that God is doing a lot of somber work in my heart preparing me for what lies ahead. We ARE happy and we ARE excited, but we are not blissfully unaware of all the costs involved. Pray for us, that God would give us courage and faith to do his will. Pray that, through the power and grace of Christ, we can love these little girls in a way that reflects how God the Father lavished his love on us... it cost him everything.
