Meet Luther!

Good Sunday afternoon, y’all! You guys probably thought I died in the heatwave last weekend, didn’t you? There was one time when I was walking across the Walmart parking lot when I actually asked God to just go ahead and take me home via one of the 50 idiots racing up and down the parking lot aisle but then I then I thought about my children and how poorly dressed they would be if I were to die so I told God “never mind”. Alas I survived the heat, so the blog continues.
Okay, so on to Luther... Lance and I have been talking about getting the boys a puppy for a while. I really wanted them to have a “childhood dog” that they would love and who would love them. I’m a researcher. By researcher, I mean I’m a professional googler. If I have a question about ANYTHING I ask Google first. There wasn’t much information on Lance before we got married, so that’s what happened there... I know you were wondering. Anyways, I did my research on dogs. I wanted one that was not as big as a lab but not as small as chihuahua.  I wanted a dog that was soft to the touch and didn’t shed a ton. I wanted a dog that was intelligent and a good family dog. I wanted a dog that wouldn’t come with a long list of breed health issues. I wanted a dog that was cute enough that I wouldn’t choke it if it chewed up one of my wedges.
My friend Jamie got a Springer Spaniel puppy over a year ago, and judging by her pictures (she’s a photographer, too) and her posts on FB, I thought a Springer Spaniel might just be what we needed or wanted. After a bit more isolated research I had pretty much made up my mind that this was the breed for us.
I found Luther on a puppy-finding-website and fell in love with his little puppy profile picture and the fact that he was next door in Alabama vs Pennsylvania . We called and he was still available so we claimed him as ours and went yesterday, all the way to Decatur, AL (north of Birmingham), to pick him up.
We should have left Asher at home. The promise of a puppy was not enough to keep him completely angelic for the four hour car ride. Overall, the kids did well and Lance didn’t pull a gun on any Alabama drivers. And we learned something...
Yep, and I skipped church this morning because of Luther. I’m still shaking my head from that one!
We made it to Decatur and without further ado, meet Luther...
We named him Luther after the awesome Martin Luther (or if he’s just deviously pee-peed on my floor, after Lex Luther). Brayden called him Loofer at first and Asher calls him Woofer (which is actually a pretty good descriptive name for a dog if you think about it).
He actually slept pretty well last night. He only whined a little bit for about an hour. I honestly had the whole “Oh my gosh! Is he breathing?” mom reaction when I woke up this morning because I had totally expected a horrible night.
Whoever said puppies need to go out to pee/poo approximately 6 or 7 times a day is a foolish optimist who has never raised a puppy or a complete liar. I’ve gone out that much just this morning and he still peed on the kitchen floor twice and in his crate once.
Even though he can’t hold his water, he is a sweet, sweet puppy and I think we have gained a good and loyal addition to our family. We look forward to watching him grow!

Until next time. -K
